Busy, busy, busy! It can find it very hard to quieten the mind. We’re very busy during the day, but then as soon as we go to sleep, that’s when the mind is wide awake, even though the body is tired. That’s because we haven’t allowed thinking time during the day. Minding the mind means giving ourselves thinking time!
The mind is designed to be busy. It reflects on the past, and using information from past experiences, makes plans for the future. It does this as self-protection. To get enough sleep, to get through our to-do lists and to plan for the future, we need to assign thinking time during the day.
People come to see me when they are overwhelmed by the busyness of their mind. They need a time-out to stop the hamster wheel of their mind so they can think straight again. They need a phone-free, people-free time-out to reset and mind their mind.
It’s important to care for the mind by taking a time-out. This may mean connecting with a friend, going for a walk, exercising or practicing meditation. It’s important to care for the mind in a way that you love! What suits one person, may not suit the another person, so how are you going to mind your mind today?
