11/7/2017 0 Comments Watching The Way We TalkSometimes it’s interesting observing how different people talk about events in their lives. Some focus on difficult it was and how terrible it was to go through something. Some people are overly positive about experiences, even bad experiences. They don’t want to focus on how difficult it was. Others talk about challenging times differently. They acknowledge how difficult it was, and then they notice the blessings or lessons that came from it. Every lesson is a blessing because we learn something we didn’t know before. Life, unfortunately, teaches it’s lessons the hard way!
How we talk about something affects our mental health. When we focus too much on the difficulty of a situation, we may end up feeling fearful, anxious and see danger around every corner. When we are overly positive about a situation, playing down the effects of challenges, we lose the opportunity to see the lessons the situation provides. Taking a balanced approach to our mental health means we acknowledge both the negatives and positives equally, learning from the situation and also appreciating the blessings. In this way, we become calmer and build our stress resilience. Talking the talk of a balanced life is developed through many ways. It starts with awareness, self-honesty and practicing self-care techniques to strengthen our calmness muscle!
