A woman in her early 60’s presented with pain in her shoulders and right arm. She wasn’t able to sleep because of the pain and couldn’t lie on her right side at night.
The only treatment she wanted to try was a 30-minute Indian Head Massage. She came once a week for three weeks, and now comes once a month. The way I work with Indian Head Massage is that it’s a very gentle treatment. Just like you wouldn’t try to get a knot out of a length of rope or a necklace with force, I use the same approach with muscles. Often, pain happens because of overuse of a muscle, or set of muscles. A muscle doesn’t work in isolation. It works with other muscles. After one session, the pain went, and she was able to get a good nights sleep. This has continued going forward. She was someone who needed to be on the go all the time. After six months of treatments, she is now beginning to take time in the evening to wind down instead of pushing herself to work until bedtime.
