Life comes in waves. Some of these waves mean slowing down and other waves mean we need to speed up. Slowing down is an overwhelming concept. We are so overloaded with information and with things to do and to see and to watch. We can feel like we’re going to miss something or lose out by slowing down. Slowing down requires patience, compassion, good boundaries and discernment. Through practice and connecting with our intuition, we learn how to balance these waves.
But is it worth it? Absolutely. When we slow down, we give ourselves a chance to take stock of our lives. We give our body and mind a chance to catch up with all the things we’re trying to do. As we slow down, we give ourselves space for connection, both with ourselves and with others. As we learn to slow down and become comfortable with it, we realise what’s important and what’s not important. We begin to let go of the things that aren’t important to us. We begin to find ways through every block. We begin to connect with our intuitive guidance.
“Doing is Believing”. It’s very easy to talk about slowing down. Practicing slowing down is another ballgame. It takes conscious effort. But after a week or two of practicing slowness, we begin to see that we actually do have time for the things that are important. Our body gets the rest it needs. Our mind gets the insights it needs to move us forward. Then we wonder why we haven’t slowed down before.
“Once she stopped rushing through life, she was amazed how much more life she had time for”. – unknown
