Feeling connected to each other is a basic human need. Feeling connected to ourselves is also a basis human need. Time and time again I see clients who are disconnected from their body and mind. They don’t see the connection between busyness and stress, or the benefit of being patient with themselves, or the effects of diet and exercise on their health. We numb ourselves to our feelings and try to carry on regardless.
The most recent example of this is the news of Prince Harry coping with grief after his mother’s death after 20 years. Just like Prince Harry, grief, anxiety, depression or any other feelings or emotions don’t go away just because we keep the chin up and keep going. Chances are that are you read this, you know there’s something that wants to see the light of day so it can be released. We’re so focused on feeling afraid of being judged or being hurt by allowing our feelings up, that we don’t see how much we’re hurting ourselves by holding on. There are many different ways to release buried feelings, such as counselling and art therapy, holistic therapies such as massage, Reiki and Bio-energy and yoga. It’s important to try different methods and find one that suits you and that you are comfortable with the practitioner. Holistic therapies do not replace the need for medical attention. Holistic therapists do not diagnose medical problems or manipulate bones. Always tell me if you have a medical problem, even a minor one. There are certain situations in which caution should be taken when receiving massage and bodywork.
